You know, some people just don't want to grow up and if they can play with trains & bikes with their buddies at 50yrs +, then by ALL MEANS DO IT. This morning's ride was a TRUE adventure as six PCRs took off to catch the Front Runner from Salt Lake City to Orem. Wood wanted to share the route ridden from his work for LOTOJA training, which you will see is breath taking.
As hosts of the ride, Hale & Wood, learned early that it is a challenge to keep the team focused. A stop for donut holes on the way to the train station was met with, "Are we going to ride or what?" Once riding the athletes calmed down a little, but it hadn't been less than 60 minutes when the two billy goats, Glauser & Bruner, decided they wanted to start riding back to Orem and the Black Knight, KING OF THE HILL this week, had to back track and bring them back into the fold. The last event that made me realize what professional coaches must have to deal with is when the fellow host and his neighbor decided they wanted to ride a separate route home from the mouth of Big Cottonwood and LEFT THE TEAM.... WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT??
Yes, as seen yesterday, Spring Has Sprung as 100s of bikers hit the roads. This week's ride took us to the mouth of Little Cottonwood and back to the top of Little Mountain, 3, 600+ vertical. The Mikes, which have been absent for a while, brought the level of riding up several notches. There was a couple of riders that when falling behind decided to work on their singing, which paid BIG dividends as you will see/hear as they lead the group in a rousing choir of, Oh What A Beautiful Morning, Oh What a Beautiful Day.... :-) We're not the fastest riders, but definitely the MOST ENTERTAINING!
As we continue to train to wear of some of the winter fat, the legs are getting a little stronger and for some, SEXIER. Mike Trabert, who is shaving his legs, was nominated sexiest legs and is trying to convince everyone that it really helps you go FASTER....... NOT! You will also notice that many are asking for more video time as they become more comfortable in front of the camera... Lloyd, you have come a long way.
PS- Our Fashion Direct, Kim Briggs, wanted me to add the following from his recent readings from Martha Stewart. Kim we appreciate your keeping in touch with the latest fashions and the feminine side. If you have any questions about lawn care, call Steve Hale's wife...... SERIOUS!
STEWART'S '10 GOLDEN RULES' FOR AGING
Martha Stewart compares aging to a bonsai tree, which is revered in Japan
and, with proper care, flourishes as it ages. Her "10 Golden Rules" for growing
old beautifully, like the bonsai:
• Eat well - which includes bread and meat
• Maintain a healthy weight - http://www.webmd.com/diet/tc/healthy-weight-what-is-a-healthy-weight
• Stay physically active - ride with the PCRs often
• Get quality sleep - invest in a good pillow and get out early to ride
• Wear sunscreen - take your riding gloves off before applying
• Collaborate with a good primary care doctor regularly - check with Lloyd and Jensen
• Find your passion - and hope it agrees with your wife
• Connect with others - singing and doing interviews with Harley Mommas
• Stop complaining — change what you can, and accept what you cannot - check with Hale
• Stay curious - that doesn't mean walking in someones bedroom "without" knocking to get him up for the 7am call
