PCRs, autumn has arrived in this great state of Utah. This week was the 1st inaugural Big Cottonwood Marathon/Half Marathon and so a few of us took advantage of the closed canyon and left the valley early to ride to Brighton without ANY TRAFFIC.... IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!
WOW..... just one of the many great vistas
The sun was shining early on the UTE flag
Max, you have one block left ........ 3:26
Just think how much faster you could have run without the back pack.... :-)
Some PCRs came to challenge the clock at the 12 hrs of Sundancemountain bike race. The way this event works is that each rider or team competes against the clock and each other to see who can ride the most 8 mile laps in a 12-hour period. Strategy and endurance are factors in an event like this.
Knowing when to take in some food, catch a short rest, eat and take time for interviews, is KEY.
****YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY ****
We love the UTAH mountains
"If someone sees Max Wood, tell him to STOP talking and GO TO BED"
Well, it's hard to believe the event is over. It's kind of like post Christmas, NOW WHAT DO WE DO?? As some of you know, it started with an exciting evening watching the Aggies give the Utes a lesson in football, in OT. It has been 15yrs since USU beat U of U and were the fans ever excited. The first injury of LOTOJA happened on the football field. Jordan Wynn left the game with a career ending shoulder injury. (Russ, we know you're smiling) Post game, Woody displayed his traffic control skills, which also came in handy during the ride as he and Cory helped until the Highway Patrol arrived.
As you will see from the pictures and video clip below, we all had an AWESOME time. We LOVE our support group and a SPECIAL thanks goes out to bandit CORY for being B team's tow truck the last 100 miles. YOU DA THE MAN! (The A Team, you don't need a tow... :-) )
The A TEAM
LET THE RIDE BEGIN!
Kathy, can you help me close this thing??
"I'm so HAPPY to have a GOOD WOMAN"
"Come on Wood, you have had enough Red Bull"
Tara, thanks for the COKES..... :-)
"We LOVE our TOW TRUCK"
There were MOVIE STARS
Tara and her BOYS
"Come on, you can DO IT"
WE DID IT!
... a little HIGH FIVE..... :-)
"Yes, it was a honor and privilege to tow in the B Team"
Some are happier than others the race is over......
I LOVE my MEDAL
GOOD FOOD - key to a successful LOTOJA
Let's go to the HOT TUB...
It's time to get up......
"Why is your DAD sleeping with us?"
GREAT FRIENDS a MUST for LOTOJA!
Remember, smell the flowers and take pics as you ride the road of life....
Well, one more day and the journey begins. As Max and I did a spin around Henefer on Monday, I realized how much easier it is to have young legs pull you the whole way. YEA BABY! Let's hope we find some young legs on the LOTOJA. GOOD LUCK to all of you who have trained, ridden hills that you really didn't want to, drank Cytomax/EFS to stay a live on long rides, listened to Wood's stories (when is he going to get to the end?) and left your wives stranded each Saturday..... :-)
Keep the rubber side down and BE SAFE... and remember it's NOT about the time, but about the MAGIC OF THE RIDE.....
Always stop to smell the flowers.......
"Hey, Max, how do you like those parachute pants?"
This morning's ride was delayed by a hour due to a little rain, which we badly need. With GREAT anticipation, Wood shepherded the ride and showed us many sites that we didn't know existed. He was criticized as he made an attempt to get Jensen out of bed, but after waking up the neighbors he was towed off the front porch. However, Dr. J did finally join the team and as usual left us in the dust as we made our way to the top of Little Mtn.
As you will see below, the sunrisesand sunsets are coming to an end as we journey next week to ride 206 miles, 3 states, in 1 day. LOTOJA, HERE WE COME READY OR NOT.....
