As you can see from the picture below, this is why we get up early to ride. It's cool, no traffic and the scenery is beautiful. Today we were taught many lessons of the road:
1. You can always take it off, but you can never put it on. (especially when you leave it in the truck)
2. Riding in a pace-line can save a lot of energy, but always stay alert when drinking from your water bottle.
3. No team member should ever ride ALONE......... unless he has received yellow cards the previous 2 - 4 rides.
4. Always say hi to pretty girls that are running by....... for some it is a great source of extra energy... (Mr. Hale :-))
Always take time to read these kinds of signs

Pioneer Day on the Mormon Trail
The ride today was back to mountains to commemorate the Utah Pioneers. As we rode, we all commented, "how in the world did they ever get wagons down these canyons?" We started with a little warmy-uppy from the Mtn. Dell golf course parking lot to the trail head. Some of the riders were not happy that we started where we did, but as you can see from the video had BIG appetites when we finished. HAPPY 24th!A quick stop was due to smell the wild flowers, but Webber was thinking, "when do we get to eat?"
YES, WE CONQUERED THE MOUNTAIN!

Layton & Back - 114 miles / 18.1 mph
This morning was a flat ride to Layton and back. Our ride started in Sugarhouse, took us to the UofU campus, past the capitol and out to Layton along the Legacy Parkway, and back to the mouth of Big Cottonwood and home along Wastach. It was a beautiful warm day, starting out cool and finished hot. The talk, chatter, laughter, and only one yellow card was enjoyable, but remember to stop and smell the roses along the way. PS - If you want to invite friends, great, just make sure they are up to the challenge of riding with the Rocket Heads. "Thanks for coming, hope you can find your way home." Salt Lake City, UT - Capitol Building
A quick stop at the Maverik to refuel and enjoy some shade.... YEA BABY!

If you keep your eyes open, you'll see things that the rest of the team didn't even know were there! :-)
Some ride so HARD and FAST, they wear out their tires........ OOPS!

Big Cottonwood & Big Moutain - 83 Miles / 8,060 Feet
Today we started with a full moon as the nine of us met in front of professor Glauser's home. He was quick to give a few rules of the day and encouraged some of us NOT to get yellow cards this week. However, some just don't listen and thank goodness for the attorneys in the group for keeping us out of jail as we were pulled over by the canyon police. (Now that's a whole other story, and as we have all committed, WHAT GOES ON THE RIDE, STAYS ON THE RIDE!) Make sure you eat plenty of protein on long rides because if you fall behind there are ways to make you ride faster....

Hill Climbing Day June 11, 2011
June 11th marked the beginning of training for the hill sections of LOTOJA. This is a daunting section at the beginning of the race. We were riding that day without Uncle Scott, Captain Kim, or the our Huntsman Hometown Hero emissary, Scott Lloyd. In all, we rode 85 miles, and over 8,000 vertical. We started by climbing Big Mountain. It was an absolutely beautiful morning on Big Mountain and we loved that the gates were still closed, so there were NO CARS!

Wanship - Morgan - Lost Creek 100
Another EPIC ride. As you can see, we are all still smiling, but have several miles to go to get back to the car. The ride up to Lost Creek reservoir was a first for many and absolutely beautiful. Thanks go out to our new best friends from Holland for taking this pic.... YIPPY SKIPPY!
Our captain and hauler of bikes, (Kim, thanks for buying a truck) is looking good dispite a few days of little sleep and drinking on the river..... :-)
Scott, it's GREAT to have you back and your little break from training hasn't really helped the rest of us catch up with you...... YOU ANIMAIL!
So can you guess who's leg this is? We are all trying to figure out how he gets so dirty. He is just like a little kid when he gets on a bike.... jumping, chasing, making noise, not following the rules.... WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH HIM??

Big Mtn to Coalville and BACK! (100+ miles/7,000+ ft)
Today was a ride that will go down as one of the most beautiful rides, but one Mr. Hale will NEVER do again. (at least that's what he said yesterday) As you can see from this first picture, we were all happy riders as we reached the Big Mountain summit for the 1st time, but didn't have the strength to get out the camera the second go around. Stories, laughter, beaver ponds, food at the Polar King, and MORE stories made this ride one that will go down in the history books..........
